The situation is rapidly changing. Restaurants, movie theaters, shopping malls and gyms in major cities are shutting down. The office workers are facing new challenges of working remotely full time.

One of the responses we have seen to how people are approaching this period of isolation and uncertainty is in sudden massive changes to their shopping behaviors. From bulk-buying to online shopping, there is a change in terms of what people are buying, when and how.

As people have accepted social distancing as a way to slow the spread of the COVID-19, there has been a drop-off in brick-and-mortar shopping. On the other hand, some industries are seeing significant upticks in eCommerce sales.

Priority Products During COVID-19

The product categories being purchased are changing as customers are making buying choices based on the ever-changing COVID-19 situation.

Health Products: Hygienic and medical mask sales are up by more than 300%. The demand for safety products is higher than supply due to COVID-19.

Digital Streaming: As people are homebound and no longer pursuing external entertainment options that there is an increase in digital streaming services.

Shelf-Stable Items: All those items that have a long shelf life are in high demand. People are planning for long-term quarantine and have already bought shelf-stable items in bulk quantity.

Clothes Chains: People are not interested in shopping for clothes in person. JCPenney, big department store, large chains like Abercrombie & Fitch and Nike are all closing their physical stores and experiencing losses.
